I'm Back

The other day Brandon took Christopher outside to play and decided to pull out all of his tractor toys that he has and take a picture of it. I just thought I'd show all of you what it looked like.
Such joy!

I'm sure we've posted photos of Christopher's jumping skills in the past, but he just keeps getting better. We can't believe how high he can jump and well, daring just comes with being a boy. He's recently learned to jump up and land on his back, which he thinks is hilarious. He is really going to miss having a trampoline to play on when we move. Brandon caught some of the air Christopher gets and we thought we'd show you just one of the things he loves to do.
We went to Pop and Grammie's house a few weekends ago and it was the first time the weather was warm and the lake was full and beautiful. Christopher pretty much lived outside and Sophie enjoyed sitting on the porch and riding on the boat. Brandon went to play golf with Burt on Friday and the kids and I played around the house with Grammie. On Saturday, Grammie, Sophie and I went to a baby shower for one of my best friends who is due in May. Sophie was a hit (next to Courtney, of course!) and got lots of attention. Brandon took Christopher to the circus with Burt, Melissa and the boys. He was interested for a little while, but mostly wanted to run around. Maybe he'll enjoy it more when he's older. Sunday was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun playing outside some more. Christopher and I helped Pop build a little fence for Grammie to keep the dogs out of her flowers. He thought that was cool seeing real tools being used. Later we went for another boat ride and Christopher was very good about wearing his life jacket because it was the only way he could walk around with the dogs. He loved watching the water rush under the front of the boat and the bouey bounce along the side. The boy loves water! A few days earlier he actually got in to wash his feet off with Brandon and decided it was time to go swimming and laughed the whole time! Then he cried all the way to the bathtub because he wasn't ready to get out of the lake. Kids have no concept of "too cold to swim" do they? We also got photos taken of the kids and their trees. Grammie buys a new tree every time she has a new grandchild born, so we had to capture that. Sophie is the only girl, so she got a pink dogwood that is starting to bloom and is just as tiny and pretty as she is. We had a great time and will be back again in a few weeks when we move!
Our little Sophie went for her 2 month checkup on Monday and the doctor said she was doing great. She is 11 pounds, 14 ounces and 22 1/4 inches now. She falls into the 75% for each of those, which is right along where she's been and where her brother always stayed. She seems to keep getting cuter and cuter every day and smiles, laughs and coos more. It's adorable! About a week ago she started sleeping through the night and we couldn't be more excited about that! She got her first cold over the weekend, so she wakes up from her stuffy nose about once or twice, but give her a pacifier and she's good to go. I know, I sound like a bragging mom, but who doesn't when talking about their newborn! We thought this was a funny picture of her. She has that, "What you talkin' bout Willis?" look, doesn't she?

Ok, I'm assuming since he's a man, my dad doens't mind me telling you that he just turned 60 over the weekend. This was one of the reasons we decided to head to Montgomery for Easter. We drove up to Grammie and Pop's house on Saturday to have lunch with the family and celebrate his birthday. We were so excited to see Aunt Jenny, Uncle Trey and Great while we were there. Christopher went down to the water with Brandon and Pop to watch the dogs fetch balls into the lake. It was so nice to see the water all the way up, last summer it never even reached the pier. Then he went on an egg hunt around the house with Grammie and Aunt Jenny. He had so much fun finding eggs and trying to open them to see what was inside. After lunch Christopher wanted to help Pop open his presents, which was a lot of fun for him. Then it was time for naps. Grammie and Aunt Jenny loved on Sophie for a while and it was nice to catch a few zzz's myself. Once everyone woke up the Harpers came over to join us for some birthday pie. After another egg hunt we headed back to Montgomery. It was a fun party!
We were going to have Brandon's parents up for Easter since they were unable to come up a few weekends ago for Sophie and Christopher's party, but we decided to head to their house instead. Brandon got off work a day early, so we headed down after lunch on Wednesday and we made almost the entire drive with BOTH kids asleep! Christopher ALWAYS wakes up as soon as we get to Birmingham, no matter where or which direction we are going, so this was a huge surprise to Brandon and I. We went to dinner with Mimi, "PaJohn" and Nana at their regular Wednesday night Mexican restaurant. It was the first time Nana had met Sophie, which was one reason we decided to come to Montgomery. On Thursday Brandon had to head back to Birmingham to take care of some things for graduation and attend Match Day for his class. He had a great time and the kids and I hung out at the house and played with Mimi. After Brandon got home on Friday, he played with Christopher so Mimi and I could take Sophie with us to get pedicures and do a little shopping. Saturday we drove up to the lake to celebrate Pop's 60th birthday. We woke up early Easter Sunday to get ready for early church and it was nice to go back to where Brandon and I met to see and hear the service. We took photos when we got home and it was cold, which Sophie didn't care for and Christopher just wanted his "present", so it was hard to get some good ones, but still fun. After a wonderful lunch, we loaded up in the car and hit the road. We wanted to leave at nap time again since we had so much success on the trip down. It was a great weekend and we were so glad that we got to spend time with our family again.
We took Christopher for the second time to get his haircut by a professional. I've been cutting it since he was 9 months old, but a couple months ago it got to where I just couldn't get it under control anymore. I was able to keep it trimmed for a while, but I've been a little busy and he doesn't want to sit still for me, so before we headed out for Easter I had to take him to get it done. He did a great job and sat still the whole time. We were very proud of him and his new haircut!

I usually post things only about the what the kids have been up to on here, but there is so much going on and some confusion about it all so I thought I'd just take the time to tell you what will be going on with our family. (No we're not pregnant!!!)
Brandon is finishing up his surgery rotation and next week will spend two weeks doing ER. After that, he's finished. Yes, done. Completely. Don't think he's going to be sitting around relaxing and playing golf, although I'm sure that's what he'd love to be doing, we still have two kids remind you. We are moving May 16th to Florida. Well, sort of. Yes, we are moving to Florida, but the actual date of arrival and the date we are moving into a house are still up for debate. We are leaving Huntsville on May 16th and will hang out in Montgomery for about a week. On the 18th we will all head up to Birmingham to proudly watch Brandon graduate from medical school, for which we could not be more excited about!
THEN we will move to Florida where we will find a house and then move in. Don't worry the house is there, we just have to pick which one we want. We are going to be living on base and for those of you who aren't familiar with that, like myself, apparently you show up, see which houses are available and say, "I want THAT one!" Then you set a date for them to unload all of your stuff that they so wonderfully packed up for you. So, Brandon will be busy supervising our move and I'll be watching the kids.
Ok, that's what Brandon has going on, maybe you are wondering what I have going on. Maybe not. I'm going to tell you anyway. Let's see, where do I begin... I have laundry. Lots of laundry. Burp cloths and baby clothes need to be washed constantly. Also, trying to remember how to fix a meal while holding a screaming baby and watching a toddler throw a basketball at the light hanging from the ceiling all while talking on the phone with someone who doesn't have kids. Oh, and then there are errands. Which for the most part haven't been too bad. I just really limit myself to where you can take two kids and still afford to buy something that could get broken. And then there's naps, if I can get one. So far I haven't needed them as much lately, but I try to get one when I can. Thankfully I get more showers than naps though. I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop here.
I guess you saw that Christopher has turned two. Well, a few weeks before the big day, it really hit. He's not always the sweet, loving, gentle little boy most of you know. Brandon and I tried really hard to approach this stage with caution and try not to call it "terrible" as it is known for, but let me tell you, it's called that for a reason! Don't get me wrong. I love my son and the last few days have been so much better, but we didn't get one new baby this past January, we got another one in March. The first few weeks after Sophie was born he was wonderful, but lately the "twos" have taken over and they hit me with a bang. Overnight he became loud, got an attitude and wants to hit and throw everything from balls to train tracks to tantrums. And boy does he do a good job. He's really wanting more of my attention and when he gets it, we end up having a great day. So then life doesn't seem so bad after all.
Now on to Sophie. Boy did she come with a set of lungs! And does she ever love to scream. I'm finally figuring out that she is very particular about getting her sleep. (She takes after Brandon and I both.) If she doesn't get good naps in, you are in for a very loud and eventful evening. I had to start wearing earplugs, just to get through it. On a good note, she has started smiling and cooing and most importantly, is almost sleeping through the night!!! For about 2 1/2 weeks she's been going until 3:30 or 4 and last night went until 5:00! But I'm sure that won't happen again. Regardless, I'm very excited about this. We just can't wait to watch her grow and she what she's going to look like.
So there is a glimpse into our crazy little life. We are very excited about moving and are having fun watching the kids change and learn new things all the time. We'll do our best to keep you up to date on everything in the next few weeks and months!
