I'm Back

Yup, Christopher is now 2 years old! We can't believe it either! At times it seems like ages ago that he was born and other times we don't know where it all went. This past Sunday our neighbors threw a "Welcome Sophie Party" and since Christopher's birthday was the next day, we celebrated his birthday at the same time. We had a great time getting together with all of our friends in town and were glad that Grammie and Pop were able to come down from keeping the cousins in Nashville to join us for the party. Christopher was definitely more excited about what was on his cake then actually eating it. He would run up to anyone who was not holding a child to pick him up so he could see it. What else would it be, but "worker trucks" as he calls them! We ended up cutting the cake at the beginning of the party because he just couldn't stand it any longer. After singing and successfully blowing out the candle he grabbed the first truck he could reach, handed it to me and said, "keen!" (that's "clean" for those of you who don't quite speak toddler yet) and then grabbed the rest of the trucks, quickly followed me to the kitchen and then ran off by himself to play with his new toys. It was the first time that he told anyone who came near him, "MINE!!!" He obviously wasn't going to share the toys he had been waiting so long (all of 30 minutes) to get a hold of. It was cute. Sophie on the other hand just sat around sleeping and watching everyone around her. She got some adorable new clothes and we can't wait for her to start wearing them. Thankfully she didn't have one of her crying fits, which are quicly becoming well known. We guess she just wants to make sure everyone knows she's around. (Don't worry sweetie! We wouldn't forget you!) After the party, we went back to the house to let Christopher open all of his presents. He was very excited about all the trucks, tools, basketball goal, DVDs and more that he got. We have been enjoying them all this week. The next morning we were all still recovering from the excitement and the kids crawled up in our bed (ok, so Sophie didn't) and watched a little bit of Mighty Monster Trucks before starting the day. It was so cute I had to snap a quick photo.
I guess Sophie read yesterday's blog saying all she does is sit there and stare because today when we tried some tummy time she decided to practically start doing push ups. We did this the other day for the first time and she didn't hate it as much as I thought she would, maybe because Christopher and I were cheering her along, but she didn't lift her head very high off the ground. Today she really impressed her Mommy and I just had to brag on her. I think she enjoyed being able to look around on her own. This is when all the midnight feedings and sleeplessness start to feel worth it! There's nothing like watching your child accomplish something for the first time. I love it!

Christopher had to get a helmet if he's going to ride on the back of our bikes, but he likes to wear it when riding his bike too. Or just to walk around in the yard. After all the bumps he got on his head this weekend it's not a bad idea!

The little boy across the street has this tractor that Christopher is obsessed with. He was actually a very good driver! Still not going to buy him one.
This is the hairdo that Christopher woke up with this morning, I was just hoping it didn't mean we were going to have a devil child come out today. So far, so good!
The other day, Christopher wanted to hold Sophie. It usually lasts about two seconds before he wants to give her back. You can tell that he wants to hold her, but he's not quite comfortable with it yet. This time I decided to sit her up next to him, since she already thinks she's as big as he is and Christopher loved it because he didn't have to hold on to her tight like we tell him to. I guess he saw this as an opportunity to start teaching her some things he's learned because here is what happened...

Ok, so everyone always talks about turning the "Big 3-0" and how awful it is. Well, so far it hasn't been too bad. Of course it's only been a day, so I'll let you know later on. The day started off pretty good. Brandon took Christopher to the store to buy some milk and came home with balloons and flowers. Sophie took her first bottle without any problems. (those of you with kids understand what a big deal this can be.) The neighbor kids all came over in the morning to play (which was more for Christopher than myself, but we all enjoyed it!). Then we had lunch and put the little guy down for his nap. Sophie wasn't up for sleeping much the whole day, so we went for a nice little walk. After everyone woke up, we loaded into the car to go bike shopping. Chrisotpher had just as much fun as I did trying out bikes and he helped me pick out just the right one for me. (Thankfully one of our neighbors was driving by as we tried to attach it to the back of the car, with no luck, and we put it in his car to get it home.) We had a member of our Sunday School class bring us dinner, which was delicious by the way, and then we had all the neighbors come back over for cake. I think we had about 15 people over? It was great catching up with them (haven't seen much of anyone since Sophie was born) and have the kids play together again. I hate to admit, the bonus to Sophie not wanting to nap all day was that she slept like a champ that night! Only waking once to eat, it was great! Although we are going to have to work on this nap thing, I can't hold her during every nap. So, overall, it was a great birthday and I have to say, that I don't think being 30 is going to be all that bad! I have an incredible husband, 2 adorable kids and we are about to graduate from school! What more can a woman ask for?
I haven't been on here in a while, Brandon has taken over the updates, but I thought I'd take a little time and add a post myself. Of course I thought I would be able to do this much quicker since both kids were sleeping, but of course the thunder roared and woke one of them up. He seems distracted enough that maybe I can whip something out quickly. Last week we headed off on our first road trip with Sophie. We were going to leave on Tuesday night, but there were bad thunderstorms in our way, so we decided to wait until the next morning, which ended up having snow. (Go figure!) We loaded up the car (again), hooked up Brandon's new portable DVD player with Baby Einstein for Christopher and hit the road. We stopped in Birmingham for lunch and playtime and then tried the car again. Christopher was out within 5 minutes, but 10 minutes later Sophie had had enough and decided that he needed to wake up. So naptime was officially over, but we made it to the lake in one piece. We unloaded the car and let Christopher play for a few hours before heading into town to visit Mimi and Papa John for dinner. We had a great visit and play time before heading back to the lake, again. The next day we played outside and made sure we all had good naps, since the kids decided that we didn't need to sleep the night before, and then loaded up in the car (AGAIN) to head back to Montgomery to visit the Khans for dinner. The big brothers had a blast playing together, as usual, and the babies either cried or slept, but we didn't care b/c we had a set of grandparents there to help out. We thought we'd be heading home earlier, but not sure why b/c we just can't seem to break the boys up when they are playing, it's too much fun to watch! Friday morning Brandon drove down to Eglin to start house hunting and I stayed behind with the kids to play with Grammie and Pop. (I think we had more fun than Brandon did, but it was worth the trip.) On Sunday we went to church and to have lunch with Great and of course, had to drive home during tornado warnings. Thankfully everyone made it home safely and we didn't have any damage. We decided to stay another day to make sure we had things taken care of as far as housing goes. But by then Christopher had been gone long enough and one night he put his shoes on, grabbed his rolling suitcase (filled only with playdough) and opened the front door. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "home" to which all we could do was laugh b/c he was only wearing a pajama top and a diaper. He was very upset when he found out that he had to stay another night. But we finally made it back home and he just stood in front of the house with a grin on his face and dug around the tree (which barely has any dirt left) until it was too dark to see anymore. So the next morning we had all the neighbors come over to play, Christopher was literally shaking with excitement. He loves his friends and I can't blame him. I better run, both kids are awake now. Hey all, just wanted to drop a quick line to tell that we're doing well. Besides the love of Coke products and cappucinno's, we are enjoying our time with our lil' rascals. Christopher is a great big brother and Sophie is becoming a wonderful little sister.
Sophie is now 9.5 lbs and growing and Christoper is in love with tractors and anything truck-related. (Thank goodness we have Little Einstein Baby Macdonald with loads of footage of tractors)

Well, we finally introduced Sophie to one of Christopher's favorite pasttimes, the Bath! She did pretty well, but Christopher was wondering why there was another person taking up so much room in his personal swimming hole. After we got Sophie out Christopher was able to make his usual splashing mess a' la Calvin and Hobbes.
Overall, Sophie is awesome and is adjusting very well to having a bigger brother who keeps poking her eyes, picking her nose and trying to push a pacifier in her mouth.
