Last night I was folding laundry and I hurt my shoulder while shaking out one of Brandon's shirts. Is that sad or what? I wish I could say I did it while diving to catch Sophie jumping off the couch again, but I can't. I'm not sure what I did, but it hurt and it still hurts today. Too bad moms don't get workers comp!

On another note, here's some photos from lately.

Just a peek at what we've been looking at for the last four days. I don't know how people in Seattle deal with all the rain they get. Today it's finally sunny and we are going to meet friends for lunch... outside!

Christopher was cold after he woke up from his nap, so I covered him up with a blanket. Sophie hopped down off the couch, ran to her room to get her blanket and did this... with a little help from me. She is crazy in love with her brother!

Last week I was feeling really under the weather so I called my mom to see if she could come help. I never do this, maybe it's a pride thing, but I was feeling pretty crummy and didn't know when it would end. I'm so glad she was able to rearrange her plans and come down. The kids LOVE having her (and any of their grandparents) visit, so they ate her up while they could. I had a gingerbread house for us to make and she had never made one so it was perfect! It's a very cute house, if I do say so myself!

Finally, some fun in a box. My kids L O V E to play in empty boxes. If you can't ever figure out what to get them you can just send one of these. We play in them until the sides fall apart and I have to throw it away. This one became a car. I love how Sophie is holding her hands thinking this will help make her smaller.

Water hole what?

Last night I heard singing coming from Christopher's room. He's not much for singing songs, but this week he's started to show more interest. I realize it's Jingle Bells. Sort of. I grab my camera, set it to video and start to sneak down the hall to capture his version. Unfortunately he came out right as I was halfway down the hall. I got him to sing it again and I am hoping to get the video on here soon. Here's how it goes:

"Jingle bells. Jingle bells. Jingle all da way.
Oh what fun we have in a water hole sleigh.
HEY!"

So cute! I'm glad he likes to sing now. There's nothing cuter than hearing a little one making up their own words to songs. Sophie tries to sing along. She's got the tune, but not the words yet. But we've got time.

Last night we had our Sunday School party, without kids. We all brought our appetizers and arrived at the home that was hosting and can I just say that as soon as I saw the front door I was in love? I think I heard beautiful music and people gliding around and was in my own dream-like world as I walked through the house. I didn't hear what anyone was saying b/c I was dreaming about my family growing up in this house.

It is my dream house. For starters, the neighborhood didn't look like you were in Florida. Secondly, it wasn't cookie cutter homes where you get your choice of one of three models and the house appears 2 months later. It was perfect. It had a beautiful, lush, sticker-free yard. A small little patio out front and the most perfect dark wood doors with windows in them.

You walk in and there was a gorgeous Christmas tree in the middle of the den (I don't like the words "living room," nobody uses them!) and then you turn to go into my kitchen. It was the absolute perfect size. The island/counter with stools curved and when I stand there washing dishes I can either see, to the left a little, my children sitting at the table with chairs and a bench eating a snack OR, if I turn a little to the right, see them lying on the floor coloring next to the fireplace. Did I mention that the wall with the fireplace was brick and it had the most comfy chairs there? I didn't want to leave. Seriously, if they had more children I probably could have hidden and they wouldn't have noticed.

There is a door in the kitchen that leads to the basement. Now this is a thing we didn't know about in Montgomery. You couldn't have basements there. I love basements! This one was, like the rest of the house, perfect. It had the big tv with the kids Christmas tree and at the back of the room, another counter/stool combo and a fridge. They had Christmas movie posters on the wall too. I loved it!!

It was all I could think about on the way home. It wasn't until we arrived to pick up the kids that I realized I hadn't said one word since we left b/c I was dreaming about our family growing up in this house. Brandon told me to ask them for the floor plans. I think I'll do that. I don't know when we'll settle down, or even where we'll settle down, but when we do, this is the house I want to build. And then I'll have the original owner come and help me decorate it. She had just the right touches. It wasn't formal, it was neatly comfortable.

I'm off to make lunch for my kids in our yucky kitchen that who knows how long it's been here, but I'm so very thankful to have. They say it takes 3 houses to figure out what you really want and I think we'll have a couple more under our belt in the next few years. Have a great day!

Goodbye Diane

I'm not a huge news person, but I do like to turn on Good Morning America in the mornings (thanks Aunt Mel for the intro) to hear if anything important has happened since the day before. I don't always get to "watch" it, but it's just nice to hear adult voices.

This past Monday I turned it on and heard the sad news that Diane Sawyer was leaving at the end of the week and moving to another part of ABC news. One of the things I loved the most was hearing her and Robyn and their sweet voices in the morning. They always seemed to be so happy and truly care about what they were talking about, even if I didn't.

Then, another shocker... Chris Cuomo was leaving too! I think that he's adorable and I'm sad I won't get to hear him teasing his co-workers in the morning. It seemed like such a fun group of people to be around. He's going to be doing news still, but kind of all over the place and mostly with 20/20.

I recorded Friday's show so I could watch it on my own time and say goodbye. I did catch one part and I had to share the quote with you. I think Diane had said it earlier in the show and quoted it wrong so she was correcting herself. I think it's from Dr. Seuss? "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." I absolutely love that! I've always been a little slow when it comes to goodbyes b/c it just doesn't sink in for me for a while that it's really "goodbye" and not "see you later".

I just finished reading a Christmas book (The Christmas Blessing) last night and it's the sequel to The Christmas Shoes. I had a lump in my throat reading the last 20 pages, but I'm so glad I did. If you want a super quick read, I highly suggest this one. The quote from above just kept going through my head the whole time I was reading it. It's a beautiful way to look at life too. Having lost a loved one several years ago, I know how tough it can be, but being a Christian gives you such peace about it. That's not to say there aren't tears to be shed, but I find joy in knowing I will get to spend eternity with that person in heaven.

So, on that note. I don't mean to be a downer for the day, but hopefully help give you a new way to look at things. I don't really like goodbyes b/c I prefer to think that I will always see you later!

Our busy weekend starts tonight. Well, it's not as busy as supposed to be b/c we have decided to pass on a few of the events. I had a party last night, b'day today, 2 parties tonight and one tomorrow night. That's five total. We've never been invited to a Christmas party yet and we had 5 in one weekend this year! We are only going to attend the residency party tonight and the S.S party (no kids) tomorrow night.

This morning we were going to head to Destin for breakfast at the Donut Hole and then watch the Christmas parade followed by lunch with Santa at AJ's. We woke up, got ready, drove over there and found out the Donut Hole was closed until the 19th. Thank goodness for Krispy Kreme just a few blocks down. It was raining pretty steady so the parade was cancelled. We went to Target and finished all of our Christmas shopping, except for my dad. Then we headed to Mellow Mushroom for lunch, followed by a stop at a Blockbuster closing sale on the way home.

Kids are finally asleep. Brandon and I are hiding out in our room from them. It was a great morning, but I think the cold and rain was wearing on them and they became scary on the way home. I'm going to take a very, very much needed shower and see if I can wash this 3 day old grease out of my hair before I head to the kitchen to make spinach dip for tonight's party. Tomorrow, taking a cheese ball. Decided that I would not try to impress, but show up instead.

I hope you all have a fabulous and warm weekend. I wish we had a fireplace b/c it's the prefect day for one! Tomorrow forecasted to be 71. Yuck.

Future Auburn Tiger

This is what my daughter wore to church on Tuesday... with her dressy Sunday shoes.

Brandon had put on her cute Christmas shirt and jeans, but after I had to change her diaper this is all that she would wear. Can you tell the socks have the Disney princesses on them? They do. She picked out her church shoes and refused to change any bit of it. I didn't bother to fight. I honestly didn't care. I'd always wanted to have a child that would dress his/herself in funny clothes and be so proud of it and that's exactly what I got. She napped in it and this is after she woke up, crazy hair and all with a little candy cane in her mouth. She didn't take it off until bedtime.

New friends

Well, I don't really have much to say, I just feel like I haven't been on here in forever and should say something. The weekend was kind of a blur since I was under the weather and I was so thankful that Brandon was off the whole time and could take over everything. I'm feeling much better now, but just a little slow going. Last Thursday we had a little visitor come and stay with us in the afternoon and I so wish that I had a recorder so everyone could hear the conversations that he and Christopher had. They were adorable! And when his dad came to pick him up I begged him to let him come back again. I haven't seen Christopher play with anyone like these two played and talk about the things they talked about. They played trains and built a track that they were extremely proud of, on the floor. They played outside in the dirt and of course had imaginary things or people that joined them. They dressed up like firemans (I was corrected when called them firemen). They ate popcorn and watched Christopher's recycling and truck movie. But I think that my absolute, most favorite thing that happened was when I wasn't in the room... all I heard was something like this:

Christopher: "I want to touch your hair. What does it feel like?"

Braden: "Ok."

Christopher: "Your hair feels funny."

Braden: "No it doesn't."

Christopher: "It feels bumpy."

Braden: "Yours doesn't. It feels flat."

See, Braden is one of the most adorable 3 year old black boys you will EVER meet and he is the first black boy that Christopher has ever played with. We just haven't met anyone his age yet and this precious child is the youngest son of a fellow resident of Brandon's. He has and older sister and two older brothers, one of which you will be watching for soon if you follow college football. He signed as a junior if that tells you anything about how good he is. He also happens to be a Godly high school student, which in case you were wondering, is a rarity in high school sports stars. The whole family is an absolute joy to be around and you will come home with the most well toned abs after seeing them b/c they will all have you in stitches!

Hope you are having a great start to your week and getting your Christmas under control. Happy holidays!

thanksgiving photos

It has taken me over an hour to get these photos on here b/c I could only add them 3 at a time instead of 5, so forgive me if they aren't great and I sound a little annoyed. We had a really fun Thanksgiving at my parents' house and the cousins had a ball playing together. It went just like I pictured, lots of laughs, a couple tears, tons of playing, hardly any naps and a heap of fun! Check out my sis-in-law's photos for more.

No, we weren't celebrating Mardi Gras, the boys found some of the dress up clothes for Sophie and thought it would be funny if they put it on. (Caroline and I are thinking black mail or rehearsal dinner photos.) We aren't exactly sure where or who came up with the idea, but the necklaces turned them into cowboys. They would put it over one shoulder and wear them sideways (like Drake below). I told them it was the bullets they wore in the old west. And no, the heels were not allowed again. Although I wish terribly that I had a photo of my brother's face when Hunter came out wearing Grammie's little kitten heels. Priceless!

Sophie going for one of the many, many rides on our old horse. It's probably about 30 years old and makes funny noises thanks to the stuff my mom said we stuck in there after removing the handle as kids. It was quite the hit with the grandkids.

These photos are for my sister. Anne Morgan made several appearances that day and I think I held her the most when they made it to the lake. I love how still and content she is. My kids wanted to go or scream all the time, so I'm making up for it now with her.

An attempt to have all the great-grandkids together with their "Great." We had several people clicking away, but not sure anyone had a good shot.

The turkey was inspired from a mom at MOPS. She said they mail a feather to all the members of their family and have them mail them back with what they are thankful for written on it. Then they stick them on a turkey and the kids love to watch the number of feathers grow. I think it's something we'll have to keep doing. It was fun!

Later that night we wanted to get all the grandkids with Grammie and Pop. I love how nobody is looking. I really do! We don't pose well in our family. You gotta catch up live.

My two superheros after finding the wood to make their reindeer.

Working on it in Pop's shop. I was so proud of them! I love being in here. Reminds me of when I was a kid. My favorite place: the wood aisle in Lowe's/Home Depot. They need to make a scented candle for that!

Sophie and Drake going for a ride surrounded by the dogs. These two are so cute together!!!! So happy and just love to be together.

Grammie and Sophie, two of my favorite people. I love them dearly!

Here's another one. He's just glad he finally found one of Pop's Snickers in the freezer.

Christopher loving on his reindeer. I can't figure out what his name is though. He likes to make up words and we are trying to break that habit, so right now it's nameless.

Christopher showing Drake the tail he got to add to it.

I think Hunter was napping, but these three had fun playing in the big sand pile together.

We may love our heels, but there's nothing like playing in the dirt with a truck for this little girl.

Heaven. That's all I can say for this one.

Saturday we went into town to see Mimi and Papa John. Mimi and I went to some stores and the men took the kids to see the big trucks in the field down the street. I think the climbed on all of them. Papa John just loves his little girls! (Sophie's one of four!)
